Leadership
Building Relationships, Being Involved, Making Connections, Continually Learning, Participating Honestly, Supporting Others

1
Advanced Leadership Corps (ALC)
I was selected from a pool of applicants that spanned the entire state and was made up of School Board Members, County Commissioners, and Municipal Officials to participate in a week long, immersive, intensive, personal development program that highlights leadership styles, sharpens communication skills, and strengthens the ability to effectively lead and govern. As an alumni of the program (provided through the UNC School of Government in Chapel Hill), I am now part of an extensive network of "ambassadors" who support and inspire fellow leaders.
2
Continual Learning
Whether through the UNC School Of Government, The League of Municipalities, Attendance at CityVision or the Downtown Mainstreet Conferences, or working with a leadership coach, I am regularly taking courses, attending classes, or particiating in seminars to better my understanding of municipal government and my role as a leader.
3
Women In Municipal Government (WIMG)
I am a member of WIMG, one of the National League of Cities' six constituency groups. This caucus within NLC serves as a forum for communication and networking among women local elected officials and is a valuable resource for shared best practices and advocacy.
4
Capital Area Municipal Planning Organization (CAMPO)
I serve as an alternate on the CAMPO executive board. CAMPO is a regional transportation planning organization that serves Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, and Wake Counties. The purpose is to direct multi-modal transportation planning across our area and to distribute funds for transportation projects. As the smallest municipality in Wake County (despite being the 2nd fastest growing in the state), it is important for Zebulon to have strong advocacy on this board as we rely on CAMPO fund distributions for traffic mitigation initiatives like the North Arendell Widening Project
5
Fostering Meaningful Relationships
One of my most important roles happens to be something I really enjoy, meeting people and building relationships. Networking with leaders from neighboring municipalities, throughout the County, across the State, and into the federal government is crucial to learning best practices, working together to leverage state and federal dollars, to recognizing and acting upon regional and local opportunities, compiling and asking for grant monies for projects, knowing what resources are available and how to access them, and identifying common needs and working together to achieve results that benefit everyone .
